Costner Kicks Off Living Without Limits Fun Run April 26, 2005

On April 26, Upstate South Carolina welcomed Oscar-winning actor Kevin Costner, as he visited Anderson to kick off a fundraising event for a newly-formed foundation in honor of Ben Comen. Costner arrived at T.L. Hanna High School via helicopter to kick off the first annual Ben Comen Living Without Limits Fun Run. Mr. Costner and his wife Christine began the festivities with a starter pistol shot. Costner then signed autographs, posed for photos, and visited with Andersonians at a VIP reception after the run. The entire event had to be relocated into the gym due to heavy rain and storms, but nothing could have rained on this parade.

Mr. Costner's visit raised over $5,800 for the Comen family's newly established Ben Comen, Living Without Limits Fund of the Foothills Foundation. This fund will provide resources (including scholarships) to challenged athletes as well as family, friends, coaches, and teammates who support challenged athletes. In Dave Comen's words, "The Living Without Limits Foundation will recognize the achievements of people with disabilities and help remove obstacles from their dreams."
*This event was administered in partnership with Partners for a Healthy Community.
