Ben Comen, Living Without Limits Foundation
In honor of those who have stood with Ben all the way, Ben and his family have started a nonprofit foundation designed to honor those who give their all - on the course and off. The Ben Comen, Living Without Limits Fund of the Foothills Community Foundation seeks to provide information and resources to challenged athletes, and to recognize their accomplishments and the accomplishments of those who support them.

Purpose  The mission of the Ben Comen, Living Without Limits Fund shall be to promote the full potential of challenged athletes by:
   • Providing information for challenged athletes and parents of challenged athletes
   • Providing information on resources available for schools and other institutions to support
     challenged athletes
   • Honoring challenged athletes and their supporters through recognition, scholarships, and grants

Information Objectives  Living Without Limits aims to provide information and resources to four target audiences: athletes; parents; significant others such as teammates, therapists, coaches, and families of athletes; and communities supporting challenged athletes. For example, the foundation will provide for athletes information on adaptive technologies, IDEA, ADA, physical/occupational therapy, organizations, and foundations. Communities can look to Living Without Limits for information on organizations, foundations, government resources, and general support.

Scholarships  The Living Without Limits Fund seeks to provide annual scholarships and annual grants. Honorary awards include the following:
Ben Comen Honorary Scholarship, for a student exhibiting perseverance over adversity, with    preference to a challenged athlete
Alex Comen Honorary Scholarship, for a student exhibiting extraordinary support for a    challenged athlete
Chuck Parker Honorary Grant, for a coach/team demonstrating support of a challenged athlete

Sources of Funding  Initial funding will come from the direct donations of individuals, other foundations, and private companies. As the fund gains recognition, it will seek grants in addition to funding from donations. Proceeds from merchandise sales (t-shirts, posters, etc.) will also go into the general foundation budget, as will a portion of speaker’s fees.

Funding Objectives  Funding objectives include fulfillment of direct services in the form of scholarships and grants, and indirect support of information management. The target percentage of direct and indirect services to total budget is a minimum of 85%.
